School Food

Gold Hill School Provides:

The Gold Hill School is given an annual budget to supplement student lunches.  The school provides a morning snack of various fresh fruits.  At lunch, we provide a selection of vegetables as a salad bar and sometimes supplemented with stir-fry or other veggie rich options.  The school also provides a healthy mid-afternoon snack, i.e. crackers, yogurt, cheese and salami, nuts or granola bars.

Families Provide:

Every student comes each day with a packed lunch from home.  Students are welcome bring "heat ups".  Heat-ups are food items, stored in oven-safe dishes or aluminum foil which are heated up in the oven for about 30 minutes prior to lunch time, thereby allowing the students to have the option of a daily hot meal.

School Garden & Cooking:

The Gold Hill School has a number of garden beds, both in the school yard and in the classroom, as well as a greenhouse.  The students regularly tend to the garden and pick vegetables for lunch.  We often make soups, jams and baked goods.  We will also do regular cultural cooking projects like making our own tortillas, or rolling our own sushi.   The kids love to get into the kitchen and cook something yummy up!
