Remember all those beautiful veggies from Miller Farms and our school gardens?  We put them to good use today!  We all worked together to make a delicious veggie soup!  The kids absolutely loved eating it today for lunch, and we've got plenty to last us the whole week!

Miller Farms Veggie Picking!

9/3/24

Today we went veggie picking at Miller Farms!  We love going to Miller Farms every year.  The kids love eating their fill right out of the fields.  The plays area is such fun too.  It Wass a hot day, but we have a lot of happy, dirty kids.  And the families love the influx of fresh food!

Today we had an adventure at Barr Lake State Park!  We worked with the Bird Conservancy of the Rocky Mountains to place bands on a number of birds, both local and migratory.  Barr Lake is a fabulous place to study ornithology!

Fire Mitigation Study

north

8/16/24

Today we went out to the North Trail to check out the regrowth of the forest floor after last year's big fire mitigation project.  The hope is this will turn into a beautiful meadow and will be a lovely home for wildlife while protecting our town from a fire coming from the north.

Hooray for Goats!

goats

8/28/24

Today we went to visit the goats in the Town Meadow!  The goats are here for a special fire mitigation project run by the Boulder Watershed Coalition.  The goats are munching away on the grass in order to create a fire break in the meadow.  If a fire approaches from the south (as it did in the 4mile fire), this will stall the flames and give fire fighters a chance to beat it back.  Additionally, the goats aerate and fertilize the soil, and they help to manage invasive weeds while supporting the growth of indigenous species.  And they are so cute and fun to play with too!!!

Little Beekeepers!

hive

8/23/24

Our first hive visit of the year!  We have eight healthy and happy bee hives!  The kids love checking out the bees and we all hope they have honey to spare this year!  One of their favorite things to do at the hive is to find a male drone bee to hold because they don't have stinger.  We're going to move our smallest hive into our observation hive in the classroom this week so we can watch our bees everyday!
